Purpose: Students love the idea of learning about the abnormal science that occurs in our world, as well as scientific theories that almost seem unfathomable. Some of this material is not mentioned in the textbooks we use when we teach, but these are the topics that students are excited to learn about when they enter our classrooms. Some of these topics include suspensions that behave like solids and liquids, fish and insects that glow, the idea that there are more stars in the sky than grains of sand on earth, the anatomy of an opal, etc…
This course is designed to allow educators to research and learn more about the interesting science that exists within, and beyond the field that they teach, but that is not normally covered within their curriculum. This material will brighten up your curriculum and make it even more engaging to the students that you teach. It doesn’t matter what age group or content you teach, we can modify the lessons we create to make them grade appropriate, and make connections between these interesting topics and the topics that our students need to know to perform well on end of year assessments. Super cool demonstrations and simulations will be suggested throughout the course.
This course is recommended for preK-12 educators
