This course will provide participants with an overview of various anxiety disorders with a focus on: definitions, prevalence, diagnosis, and treatment. Emphasis will be placed on recognition of the behaviors, signs and symptoms that may be observed in the classroom and what accommodations and strategies teachers may use to support their students.  This course is appropriate for all educators K-12, ELA, Social Studies, Math, Science, ESL, Special Education, Art and Music, Physical Education, School Psychologists, Guidance Counselors ,Social Workers Speech/Language teachers and therapists, OT & PT’s. Course Description:

Anxiety disorders as a whole, are the most common psychiatric (or mental health) disorders experienced by children and adolescents with a prevalence estimated to be between 10% and 20% of school age children. In the school setting, some children display problem behavior or are considered behavior problems when in fact there is an underlying anxiety that is contributing to the display and incidence of problem behavior, The numerous disorders that fall under the umbrella of Anxiety Disorders all have anxiety as their common feature and encompass a wide variety of mental health problems and thus tend to manifest in different ways under different conditions. This course will provide participants with an overview of various anxiety disorders with a focus on: definitions, prevalence, diagnosis, symptoms, associated behaviors and intervention strategies. Emphasis and focus will be placed on recognition of the behaviors, signs and symptoms that may be observed in the classroom and what accommodations and strategies teachers may use to support their students.
